Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 14, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information ImpactED ("ImpactED", "we", "us") collects when you use our platform, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It applies to anyone who visits our site, creates an account, teaches a course, or enrolls in one.
Information we collect
We collect information in a few different ways: what you give us directly, what we collect automatically as you use the platform, and what's generated by your activity on courses.
- Account information — name, email address, and password (stored as a salted hash, never in plain text) when you sign up.
- Profile information — anything you choose to add, such as a profile picture, bio, years of experience, or industry.
- Course activity — enrollments, lesson completions, quiz attempts, and lesson notes you take while learning.
- Instructor content — courses, lessons, media files, and blog posts you upload if you teach on the platform.
- Communications — messages you send through the contact form, newsletter subscription status, and conversations with our AI course assistant.
- Technical data — IP address, browser type, and log data collected automatically to keep the platform secure and working correctly.
How we use your information
- To create and maintain your account, and authenticate you when you sign in.
- To deliver the courses you enroll in and track your progress through them.
- To let instructors publish and manage their own courses and see aggregate stats about their students.
- To respond to support requests submitted through our contact form.
- To send newsletter updates, only to subscribers who opted in — you can unsubscribe at any time.
- To detect abuse, enforce our Terms of Service, and keep the platform secure.
AI course assistant
Instructors can use an AI assistant to help draft course structure and lesson content. Messages sent to the assistant, along with the relevant course context, are processed to generate a response. We don't use this content to train any underlying model — it's used only to answer that request.
Cookies and local storage
We use browser local storage to keep you signed in between visits (storing your session tokens) and to remember interface preferences. We don't use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
How we share information
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only in these situations:
- With instructors — if you enroll in a course, the instructor can see that you're enrolled and your progress within their course.
- Public profile info — your name and instructor bio are visible to anyone browsing courses you teach.
- Service providers — infrastructure providers that host our database, file storage, and email delivery — bound to only use your data to provide those services.
- Legal reasons — if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of ImpactED or our users.
Data retention
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we're required to retain it for legal, security, or accounting reasons.
Your choices
- You can review and update most of your profile information from your account settings at any time.
- You can unsubscribe from newsletter emails using the link in any email we send.
- You can request a copy of your data, or ask us to delete your account, by contacting us.
Children's privacy
ImpactED is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you directly.
